A child abuse investigation has led to the arrest of an Obion woman.

Newbern Police Department reports said 22 year old Savannah Alexander was taken into custody following the reported child abuse.

In December of 2025, Newbern police initiated an investigation after receiving reports of alleged misconduct by an employee at Smarty Tots Too daycare facility.

Police reports said investigators conducted a thorough investigation, including interviews and a review of available video surveillance.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander was charged with two counts of assault.

She was processed at the Dyer County Law Enforcement Center and later released on bond.

Alexander will be arraigned in Newbern Municipal Court on Monday.

Newbern Police Chief Greg Barr issued the following statement:
“The safety and well-being of our children is one of the highest priorities of the Newbern Police Department. We take any report involving alleged abuse very seriously and are committed to conducting thorough and professional investigations. We appreciate the cooperation of the families and staff involved during this process.”
