The Tennessee Department of Transportation and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are promoting safe roadside work zones.
The plea to motorists comes during the annual “National Work Zone Awareness Week” thru Friday.
The initiative is to improve interstate and highway construction and maintenance work zones, with this year’s theme of “Safe Actions Save Lives”.
Last year in Tennessee 2,432 crashes occurred, which resulted in 607 injuries and 16 deaths in work zone areas.
In Kentucky, 1,156 crashes were reported, which caused 272 injuries and 13 deaths.
As part of the “National Work Zone Awareness Week”, Wednesday will be designated as “Wear Orange Day” in support of roadside workers across the nation.
