Robert Prevost has been elected as the first Pope from the United States in the history of the Catholic Church.

The Chicago-born missionary took the name Leo XIV (14th). In his first words as Pope Francis’ successor, he emphasized peace, dialogue and missionary evangelization.

Father Carl Gregorich of the Immaculate Conception Church in Union City and St. Jude the Apostle Church in Martin gave Thunderbolt Radio more details about the Pope’s background.

Father Carl says that a celebration will be held in the Vatican and that Pope Leo XIV (14th) will take over immediately.

Pastor Carl says a special mass will be held tonight at the St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church at 6.
