Union City police are seeking the identity of a man who stole money from a cashier at Walmart, on West Reelfoot Avenue.
Police reports said a black male subject came into the store to purchase a tube of Chapstick.
At the cash register, the man paid with a $100 bill and stated he needed to break the bill for change.
Store security personnel said as the cashier was counting out the change, the man would continually ask the clerk to break the larger bills into smaller bills.
In an attempt to confuse the cashier, the police report said the man would ask for a recount, while again bring out another handful of cash from his pocket.
Security personnel said the scam resulted in $996 being stolen during the transaction with the store clerk.
Police said the man left the Walmart store driving a white Kia Soul.
Anyone with any information on the individual’s identity is asked to contact Union City police.
