Kentucky State Police has announced the arrest of a former Murray High School teacher.

Post 1 reports said Troopers and detectives made the arrest of Jason Shelby, following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual relations with a former student.

Post 1 initially received a report in August of 2018 from the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board, alleging possible sexual relations between Shelby and at least two students.

Following this report to State Police, Shelby resigned from his teaching position.

Although detectives began a thorough investigation into the allegations, it was not until one victim came forward in August to report a sexual relationship with Shelby in 2008 and 2009.

At the time of the relationship, the student was at the age of 15 and 16 years old.

Following the information, Shelby was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with third degree rape and first degree sexual abuse.

He was placed into the Calloway County Jail, with the investigation ongoing at Post 1.
