Kentucky State Police at Post 1 arrested a man charged with a double murder in the eastern part of the state.

Last Friday morning, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a Morehead residence.

At the scene, officers discovered two deceased victims and requested State Police at Post 8 to investigate.

Detectives developed 44 year old Joshua Cottrell, of Morehead, as a suspect in the deaths of 37 year old Kayla Blake and her 13 year old daughter, Kennedi McWhorter.

Troopers at Post 1, along with other local officers, located Cottrell at a Paducah hospital on Friday afternoon.

He was treated and released on two counts of murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Cottrell was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
