Kentucky Wildfire Hazard Season Underway

The Kentucky Wildfire Hazard season is now underway.

The outdoor burning law prohibits burning between the hours of 6:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night, within 150 feet of any woodland, brushland or fields.

The burning restrictions are now in effect until December 15th.

State Forester Brandon Howard said the current drought, and early falling leaves, has increased the chances for a wildfire to spread.

Reports from the Division of Forestry indicate 850 to 1,000 fires are responded to annually.

In Kentucky, 99-percent of all fires are caused by human activity, with arson accounting for more than half of those.
