For the second straight season, Westview will head to the semifinals of the TSSAA Class A State Soccer Tournament with a 9 to nothing win.
Things didn’t start as quickly for the Lady Chargers as the previous contests. Westview (15-3-1) fired multiple shots on goal with none of them finding the back of the net. That all changed in the 22nd minute when Ashlee Brent found Maddie Horton in the 18 yard box for the first goal of the night, and the deluge of scoring began. Hayden Markowski scored on a header off a corner kick in the 24th minute, before she carded another goal from the right side two minutes later. In minute 36′, Brent received a beautiful through ball from Kaydence Papich for her second goal of the night.
One minute passed before Cambry Hatler and Brent assisted on Horton’s second goal to extend the lead, 5-0 heading into the break.
Chanler Spendlove continued the onslaught with a goal in the 45th minute and Spendlove assisted Brent 120 seconds later to extend the lead, 7-0. Horton ( 53′) and Brent (55′) finished the scoring to end the match early by the score of 9-0.
The hat tricks by Brent and Horton were the first ever in State Tournament history for Westview.
The Lady Chargers will return to the pitch Wednesday at 6:30 EST and will face the University School of Johnson City for a chance to return to the state championship game.
