A  Memphis man was sentenced to 221 months in prison and three years of supervised release yesterday for being a felon in possession of a firearm under the Armed Career Criminal Act.

Back in January of 2022, Memphis Police Department stopped a vehicle driven by 29 year old Markel Strong, because of dark tints.

Police seized a firearm from the front seat. Strong was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of his numerous prior violent felony convictions.

On August 19th, a federal jury found Strong guilty of being a felon in possession of the firearm

At yesterday’s sentencing hearing, the United States presented evidence of the defendant’s past violent behavior while in custody, as well as other crimes to which the seized firearm has been linked.
