Bill in Kentucky Could Return Drivers License Renewals Back to Each County

A bill in the Kentucky Legislature could move drivers license renewals back to county offices.
State Senator Aaron Reed sponsored Senate Bill 7, which would provide the option to return drivers license renewals locally, instead of the established Regional Offices.
During a Transportation Committee meeting this week, Senator Reed said “the current driver’s license system is not meeting the needs of Kentucky. We have long lines, long drives, and repeated delays that have caused considerable frustration across the Commonwealth. This is not accessible government”.
If passed, the measure would allow a Circuit Clerk, County Clerk, County Sheriff’s Office or County Judge Executives Office to provide the service of license renewals and duplicates.
Senate Bill 7 has broad bipartisan support and positive feedback from several county officials.
The bill passed in committee and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
