
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has signed Senate Bill 11 into law that creates a residential safe room “rebate program” for eligible Kentuckians to protect themselves from severe weather.
Homeowners that are eligible for a rebate of 50% but it cannot exceed $5,000.
Governor Beshear said Kentucky has faced 15 federally declared weather disasters in six years and this will help protect families from future weather events.
The rebate program will begin next January and will be administered by Kentucky Emergency Management.
The legislation will help Kentuckians build more safe spaces for shelter during severe weather, creating safer homes and protecting more lives.” according to the governor’s office.
Beshear said while he supported the bill, he urged lawmakers to designate funding for the implementation of this measure.
