Strong Winds Cause Power Outages and Damage in Ken-Tenn Area

A strong line of severe thunderstorms moved through the Ken-Tenn area Thursday afternoon, bringing damaging winds, hail and rain.

The area was placed in a Slight Risk Zone earlier in the day by the National Weather Service, with a severe thunderstorm watch also issued.

The Gibson Electric Membership Corporation reported 1,304 outages for customers and businesses following the passage of the storms.

The outages occurred in Fulton and Hickman County is Western Kentucky, along with Dyer, Crockett, Gibson and Obion County.

The largest number of outages occurred in Obion County, where damage occurred on the Ken-Tenn Highway.

In Hickman, four power poles and lines were blown down on KY-1354 near the Cargill Grain facility.

Gibson Electric crew members were able to open the roadway last night, and are replacing the downed poles and lines today.

Reports from around the area also indicate rainfall with the storm ranged from a half-inch to an inch.
