Budget discussions are underway in Weakley County.
First to take the floor during this month’s Public Safety Committee meeting was Weakley County Sheriff Terry McDade.
Among budget considerations was the addition of Automated License Plate Recognition cameras.
ALPR cameras are high-speed, computer-controlled systems that capture vehicle license plate numbers, along with time, date, and GPS location data.
Sheriff McDade says these cameras will help to solve crimes, not pry on citizens.
Commissioner Wade Cook doesn’t believe the cameras are the best decision for privacy reasons.
Commissioner David Moore says the cameras keep citizens safe.
The Sheriff’s budget goes on to finance ways and means.
