Despite the high cost of gasoline, Tennessee is expected to break a record for Memorial Day holiday travel.
Triple-A is projecting 950,000 residents will travel at least 50 miles from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The holiday travel period will include five days, beginning on the Thursday before Memorial Day and ending on Monday.
Triple-A spokesperson Megan Cooper says most Tennessee travelers will take road trips by automobile, while approximately 114,000 will fly, and some 40,000 will travel by other modes such as bus, train, or cruise.
Cooper said although travel demand remains strong, higher fuel prices and persistent inflation may cause some travelers to shorten trips, delay plans, or stay closer to home.
