Weakley County has been allocated a portion of a $1 billion dollar settlement to the state for extensive damage and loss of life caused by the Opioid crisis.

The portion will be received in annual payments over the next 18 years from several large corporations.

The opioid crisis was brought on by the unethical and over-prescribing of opioid medications through these corporations.

Weakley County has established the Opioid Abatement Committee to oversee the spending of these funds to ensure they are used to remediate the crisis and save lives.

The committee will invite community organizations to apply for these funds annually.

The grant application is open now until May 25th, for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
