Kentucky State Police at Post 1 Mayfield has reported an increase in scams recently, including scams impersonating law enforcement.
Over the past few days, Post 1 reports show individuals on the Sex Offender Registry have received phone calls from someone alleging to be Post 1 Commander, Captain Joey Adams.
The scammers are advising of a warrant related to their Sex Offender Registry status and then request money for a bond payment.
Kentucky State Police are reassuring the public that law enforcement will not call to advise of a warrant or request money related to a warrant.
State Police also says use of information obtained from the sex offender registry, to harass a person, is a criminal offense punishable by up to ninety days in jail.
