Budget cuts in the City of Martin may lead to the demolition of the Soybean Water Tower.

During the Martin Public Works Committee meeting Monday, officials agreed that the tower’s removal may be the most cost effective course of action.

According to estimates reported at the meeting, demolition of the structure would cost around $80,000, while maintaining the tower could exceed $100,000.

The board will vote on whether or not to demolish the tower during May’s City Board meeting.

Martin has a total of five water towers including the Soybean tower.
