Kentucky Transportation Crews to Begin Spraying for Weeds on Right-of-Ways

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced their plans to begin controlling noxious weeds on state maintained roadways.

Transportation officials say the annual weed spraying is essential to protecting roadway infrastructure and maintaining safety for motorists.

In addition, residents who treat weeds on private property adjacent to state owned right-of-way, may also request spraying from highway crews.

Road crews are required to control 12 plants and weeds, that includes Johnson Grass, Kudzu, Honeysuckle and varieties of Thistle.

Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray said the growing vegetation can reduce visibility, damage drainage systems, attract wildlife and contribute to erosion.
