The Weakley County Republican Party voted 7 to 2 to hold a caucus to name a Republican candidate to be placed on the ballot to succeed the forth coming open seat for Weakley County Mayor.

The Party Leadership includes Chairman Gary Eddings, Reagan Wallace, Courtney McMinn, Roger Donaldson, Chris Mathis and Dennis Suiter.

Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Scott Golden told those in attendance that they should support the Republican Party. Golden said at the local level Weakley County is among a hand full of counties who do not have Republican candidates serving in elected offices instead run as independents.

At this point the Weakley County Republican Party will hold a caucus with a date that’s still being firmed up. The committee will meet again on Thursday May 16th at the headquarters. At that time candidates will have the opportunity to present themselves to the party.

Thus far only two candidates have announced publicly who are Dale Hutcherson and John Robert Freeman both are county commissioners.

Whoever wins the caucus the others could run as an independent. Today most all Weakley county seat holders have chosen to run as independents.
