Obion County Commission to Hear Proposal to Elect County Road Superintendent

The full Obion County Commission will now decide whether to proceed with a proposal to elect the Highway Department Superintendent.

During Monday’s Budget Committee meeting, board member Rob Holman presented a proposal to place the lead Highway Department job on the ballot.(AUDIO)

Ralph Puckett, who is the state’s longest serving County Commissioner, expressed his thoughts on the proposal.(AUDIO)

 

Following Holman’s comments about road complaints from the public, Commissioner Danny Jowers said the issue was not the Superintendent, but the lack of department funding.(AUDIO)

 

Following the debate, the Budget Committee voted 6-to-1 to send the issue to the full Commission.

During the monthly meeting on March 16th, the proposal must receive votes from two-thirds of the board to advance.
