Today is National Ag Day with this year’s theme “Together We Grow”.
Ag Day is about recognizing and celebrating the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.
Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis, with statistics showing each American farmer feeding more than 165 people.
National Ag Day is a celebration recognizing the vital role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant food, fiber, and renewable resources, along with recognizing the two-percent of the American population that produces most of the nation’s food.
In Tennessee, soybeans yielded the most value of agriculture production in 2023 at $1.09 billion dollars, followed by broiler chickens, corn, cattle and hay.
The United States Department of Agriculture said there were 63,100 farms in Tennessee in 2023, which created a total economic impact of $89 billion dollars.
