Tennessee’s most popular tourist destinations could soon operate under a new set of statewide rules.

Both the House and Senate passed legislation want to have more control over the state’s eight Tourism Development Zones.

The bill helps to protect jobs and local businesses in the tourism such as the Smokey Mountains and Graceland for Tennessee to make sure local governments don’t choke off economic activity.

Special districts are designed to boost tourism and economic development and allow certain tax revenues generated within them to be reinvested locally… rather than going back to the state.
