Today is the final day to apply for an opportunity to hunt elk in Kentucky.
The Kentucky Elk Hunt Drawing application period will close at midnight, with the fall quota hunt one of the most anticipated opportunities for hunters each year.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will announce the winners on May 9th as part of the Elk and Outdoor Fest in Bardstown.
Five hundred applicants will be selected to purchase an elk hunt permit for the season.
Hunters will be vying for 140 bull firearm hunts, 164 cow firearm hunts, 170 either-sex archery/crossbow hunts and 26 either-sex youth permits.
Selected hunters will include 90-percent from Kentucky and 10-percent non-residents.
