Discussion for the possible merger of Fulton Independent Schools with the Fulton County School System has begun.

A special called meeting was held this week in Hickman, with the Fulton County school board and Superintendent hearing information from attorney Mike Owsley, of Bowling Green.

The special meeting was established after the Fulton Independent School Board recently voted 3-2 to begin the process of merger with the county system.

By video conference, Owsley described the special meeting as a first step for “discussion with no action expected” to the Fulton Independent request.

After acknowledging the information gathering stage had started, Owsley then requested comments from Fulton County Superintendent Ellen Murphy.(AUDIO)

Owsley then addressed Kentucky Revised Statue 160.041 which governs the school merger process.(AUDIO)

Following the information given by the attorney, and no questions at this time from school board members, the meeting was adjourned.
