A Memphis man has been indicted for his attempt to kidnap Memphis Mayor Paul Young.
A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging 25 year old Trenton Abston with attempted kidnapping and stalking.
According to the federal indictment, on the night of June 15th of 2025, Abston drove his car and parked outside the mayor’s neighborhood.
He then climbed a 10-foot privacy fence and rang the doorbell of the mayor’s home.
While the mayor and his family were inside the home at the time, no one answered the door.
The indictment said Abston had rope and duct tape in his car and a taser in his possession.
Police later found a storage unit belonging to Abston, which had written surveillance notes of the movements of the guards around the mayor’s neighborhood, as well as addresses, telephone numbers, and names of family members of Mayor Young.
An Apple AirTag was also found on the Mayor’s government vehicle, which was placed by Abston.
He now faces the possibility of up to 25-years in prison if convicted on both charges.
